George Baker (b. 1970) is a world-renowned art historian and Professor of Art History at UCLA, where he has taught modern and contemporary art and theory since 2003. A critic for Artforum in the 1990s, he now works as an editor of the journal October and its publishing imprint October Books. He is the author of The Artwork Caught by the Tail: Francis Picabia and Dada in Paris (MIT Press, 2007) and has been the editor and contributor to several books and exhibition catalogues. Baker has termed a main part of his research project “photography’s expanded field,” detailing the fate of photography and film works in contemporary art.

Parisa Hakim Javadi (b. 1984) is a visual culture researcher turned PhD student of Art Studies at the University of Tehran, with a focus on photography, its multiple histories and its relation to other artistic media. For the first time in Persian, she has selected and translated a collection of essays on the remarkably influential photographic work of Jeff Wall. Her passion for cinema has also led her to write articles published in Offscreen, Kimiya-ye-Honar and Eestar (in English and Persian).
